A monthly menstrual period is a sign of women's health and an important part of female metabolism. Women with cold uterus often experience lower abdominal pain or a feeling of heaviness and distension, increased vaginal discharge, and lower back soreness or pain before menstruation. During menstruation, they may feel a cold sensation in the lower abdomen, have a small amount of menstrual flow, dark-colored blood, blood clots, and some experience dysmenorrhea to an unbearable degree. Some women have irregular menstrual cycles, often delayed by 2-3 months, or have regular monthly periods but with a short duration, finishing in 2 days. Besides delayed menstruation, lower abdominal coldness is also associated with frequent urination.
The uterus is located in the lower abdomen, in the middle of the pelvic cavity, which is the position of the "lower abdomen." Another manifestation of uterine coldness is abdominal fat accumulation, accompanied by symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, insomnia with vivid dreams, scanty menstruation, and anovulation. When the uterus lacks sufficient heat, fat acts as a "caretaker messenger" to maintain its physiological functions. The colder the uterus, the more the body needs to store fat, leading to abdominal fat accumulation.
Some women do not like clothing that exposes the abdomen; instead, they prefer wearing high-waisted pants that can cover the lower abdomen. This is because the abdomen, when exposed to external climate, is cooler than the body's temperature, causing discomfort or even pain. This is a subconscious behavior that many women do not realize. The feeling of wrapping the abdomen and the comfort felt when pressing the abdomen with hands, pillows, or hot water bottles during pain or menstrual cramps follow the same principle; both are manifestations of a虚证喜按.
In the scope of traditional Chinese medicine, the female constitution is considered yin and should not indulge in coldness. Even in hot weather, cold drinks, iced tea, fruits, and other cold items should not be consumed excessively. Eating too many cold and raw foods will deplete yang energy, leading to the generation of cold pathogens internally, accumulating in the lower burner, and harming the uterus.
Most women's jobs involve moving around only when clocking in and out; the rest of the working hours are spent sitting in the office. The office is always kept at a constant air-conditioned temperature. Sitting for long periods without exercise, combined with some women wearing revealing clothing, creates conditions where the body's yang energy circulates slowly and has to fight against the external "cold." Over time, the yang energy gradually depletes, causing the internal organs to become cold.
Whether adopting a diet-saving or exercise-based weight loss method, the process must take time. If you try to achieve slimming in a very short time, it simply means rapidly losing all the energy in the body. At this time, the body is in an unhealthy negative state, making it most likely for external pathogens to take advantage and cause illness even from a cold breeze.
1. Menstrual care: Boiling water with brown sugar and mugwort leaves, or mutton soup, can warm the uterus and dispel cold. If cold uterus causes severe menstrual pain, drinking this three days before menstruation every day can warm the uterus and remove blood stasis, allowing the stagnant blood to be smoothly discharged and alleviating menstrual pain.
2. Daily nourishment: Goji berries, longan meat, jujube, angelica, ginger, chicken blood vine, and soups made with angelica and meat can warm the kidneys, boost yang energy, and replenish essence and blood. In air-conditioned rooms, keep warm and drink warm water. Additionally, women should exercise regularly to naturally invigorate yang energy in the body.
3. Tea for nourishment: Ginger mother tea, which is made by boiling brown sugar with ginger, is consumed for a few days during menstruation. Long-term adherence can alleviate symptoms of uterine cold. You can also brew water with Codonopsis pilosula and red dates to replenish qi and regulate blood, which not only enriches qi and blood but is also one way to dispel cold and warm the uterus.
