Evening is everyone's leisure time after work and after meals. After 9 o'clock, many people's nightlife may just be beginning. However, traditional Chinese medicine believes that from 9 to 11 o'clock, which is the Hai hour, is the last time of the day, and next is the Zi hour, which is the start of a new day.
The importance of health preservation during the Hai hour
The Hai hour is the best time to nourish the Sanjiao meridian. Proper maintenance can make the five internal organs coordinate harmoniously. Moreover, this is the time when yin is strong and yang is weak; excessive depletion of yang energy will inevitably lead to a decline in physical constitution.
The Sanjiao can circulate vital energy; if well maintained at this time, it benefits the Sanjiao, allowing vital energy to be abundant and delivered to various organs throughout the body.
Therefore, the Hai hour should be an important time for health preservation during the day. So, thinking back, what would you do at this time?
Doing these things at Hai time can easily harm your health
1. Dinner
Are many people still drinking heavily with friends at this time? Gatherings are indeed indispensable for social interactions, but eating after 9 p.m. puts a heavy burden on the stomach and intestines and also affects the quality of sleep afterwards.
2. Vigorous exercise
If you are still sweating profusely exercising at the hour of Hai, it will keep your brain in an excited state for a long time, which is not beneficial for the maintenance of the Sanjiao meridian. If you are exercising outdoors, it is even worse. Because the sun has set long ago at this time, plants can no longer perform photosynthesis to release oxygen, so the air quality at this time is very poor.
3. Meet at KTV
Many people like to meet friends at KTV in the evening, perhaps because there is more free time at night, allowing for more enjoyable singing. However, singing loudly at night inevitably makes people mentally excited, and going home after singing until midnight means missing the opportunity to nourish the Sanjiao meridian. Moreover, the air quality in KTV is poor, and staying for a long time is not beneficial.
4. Drink plenty of water
Some people feel thirsty at night, but drinking a lot of water before bed can cause them to wake up to urinate, seriously affecting sleep quality. Many people have the habit of drinking milk before bed, and it's best to do so before 9 PM.
5. Playing with mobile phone
Nowadays, mobile phones have become an indispensable "public sweetheart" for people, and many have the habit of playing with their phones while lying in bed. According to surveys, 9 PM is the peak time for people using their phones, and prolonged use undoubtedly poses a threat to the cervical spine and eyesight. At the same time, it increases fatigue and makes it difficult to concentrate the next day.
How to maintain health during the Hai hour
1. Keep calm
When it reaches the Hai hour, avoid watching stimulating TV shows or movies. Calm your mind and body to allow your cells to rest. If you can't settle down, you can listen to soothing music or read a good book to lay a solid foundation for quality sleep.
2. Massage and health care
For the maintenance of meridians, a more direct method is to massage the related acupoints.
You can massage the Waiguan acupoint, located three fingers above the wrist crease on the back of the hand. Use your thumb to press and rub it; a feeling of soreness and swelling is appropriate. It can help clear heat and promote circulation through the meridians.
You can also massage the Zhigou acupoint, located 1 cun above the Waiguan acupoint. Massaging this point for 5 minutes daily is beneficial for the chest and abdomen, and can help relieve symptoms such as chest pain, abdominal bloating, and constipation.
3. Let go of your worries
Many people, after going to bed, count the gains and losses of the day, reflecting on work and interpersonal troubles, which makes them increasingly anxious and restless. Overthinking can drain one's energy, causing mental fatigue, insomnia, and vivid dreams; over time, memory may also decline. Therefore, after 9 o'clock, it's best to think about happy things and temporarily set aside troubles that are difficult to solve at the moment.
4. Prepare for sleep
Prepare to sleep at the hour of Hai (9 PM to 11 PM), so that by the hour of Zi (11 PM to 1 AM), you can enter deep sleep. Therefore, after 9 PM, put aside other trivial matters, finish washing up, put down your phone, talk with your partner, massage each other's meridians, and get ready to sleep.
The Hai hour is the time when the Sanjiao meridian is in charge, and it is also an important time for health preservation. Be sure not to miss it.
