What is getting angry?
The so-called "shang huo" (internal heat) is actually a manifestation of the imbalance of yin and yang in the human body, which is a common term for a series of symptoms related to heat-type illnesses. Fire is divided into real fire and virtual fire, which is a binary classification. However, classifying only by real and virtual fire still leaves many aspects confusing, and many people cannot distinguish the differences or the methods of treatment, leading to fear that eating certain foods will cause internal heat.
Apart from the feeling of excluding evil heat, the so-called "internal heat" mainly consists of three types: digestive fire, heart fire, and labor fire.
[Fire from Diet] refers to fire caused by irregular, careless, or biased eating habits. Common symptoms include bad breath, constipation, toothache, thirst, sore throat, mouth ulcers, eczema, diarrhea, red tongue with yellow or thick coating, and other symptoms. Due to the dietary habits in Malaysia mainly consisting of foods with heavy dampness, most people have relatively weak spleen and stomach functions, leading to the accumulation of dampness in the body and resulting in damp-heat, which can also be called stomach heat syndrome.
[Heart Fire] refers to fire caused by emotional imbalance. Long-term emotional suppression and tension lead to various symptoms of internal heat in the body. Common symptoms of this type of internal heat include irritability, insomnia, easy anger, recurrent mouth ulcers, nosebleeds, dizziness, a feeling of fullness in the head, and redness at the tip and sides of the tongue. This condition is common among white-collar workers; heavy work pressure combined with overtime can easily cause liver qi stagnation and poor circulation of qi and blood, which, when accumulated over time, forms heart fire.
[Labor Fire] refers to fire caused by mental and physical labor or sexual overexertion, often resulting from prolonged overwork, excessive mental strain, or irregular sexual activity leading to deficiency fire. Excessive mental strain depletes heart blood, failing to nourish the heart, causing palpitations, anxiety, insomnia, and vivid dreams. Excessive sexual activity, prolonged late nights, etc., can lead to symptoms such as soreness in the lower back and knees, dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia with vivid dreams, night sweats, heat sensations in the palms and soles, dry throat with flushed cheeks, dark yellow urine, and dry stools. This type of deficiency fire often presents with a red tongue and little or no coating.
Since the root cause of the three types of fires mentioned above has been identified, we can address the problem by targeting the root cause:
Since it originates from diet, one should start by avoiding certain foods. If it is caused by a preference for rich, greasy, and sweet foods, then one should begin with a light diet, eating foods with a mild flavor and avoiding heavily flavored foods. If it is caused by a preference for spicy and stimulating foods, then one should avoid eating spicy and stimulating foods.
In addition, for the internal heat caused by a preference for rich, greasy, and sweet foods, we can eat more white radish. White radish is slightly cool in nature, with a pungent and sweet taste, enters the lung meridian, and has the effects of aiding digestion and promoting qi circulation, generating fluids and moistening the lungs, as well as promoting urination and relieving constipation.
Long-term consumption of spicy and stimulating foods often causes internal heat due to damage to the stomach's yin, leading to insufficient stomach fluids and resulting in false heat. This manifests as dry mouth, burning sensation in the stomach, even hunger without appetite, and can also cause diarrhea. At this time, the following tea therapy can be used to help alleviate these symptoms.
