Light and infrequent menstruation, irregular amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, bloating and diarrhea during menstruation, vaginitis, chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, threatened miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, prolonged postpartum lochia, mammary gland hyperplasia, decreased libido, and issues like spots and acne are all considered by many to be related to cold uterus. Many people also often regard cold hands and feet as a sign of cold uterus.

Babies stay in the cold womb from an early stage, so they naturally have a strong coldness after birth, which easily leads to neonatal jaundice, eczema, diarrhea, colds, asthma, allergies, night terrors, timidity, frequent crying, and other issues. Basically, obstetric and neonatal diseases can all be related to uterine coldness.

"What the hell is Gong Han?"

Many girls often have cold hands and feet, which is more common in those with a small body frame. In such cases, wearing more clothes and keeping warm is sufficient. Some girls, due to excessive dieting, become physically weak and are prone to hypoglycemia or low blood pressure. At this time, they may experience cold hands and feet. In such cases, eating more food and exercising is beneficial. As for eating cold drinks and wearing low-waist pants causing cold hands and feet, this is easy to understand. About 70% of the blood flow in the human body is in the abdominal and pelvic cavities, and when these areas are exposed to cold, the temperature drops. To maintain body temperature, circulation accelerates and heat production increases. To sustain blood supply to vital organs, the extremities such as hands and feet naturally become cooler.

Those who say that "cold uterus" is pseudoscience believe that since the uterus is in the abdominal cavity, its temperature is the same as that of the heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys, so there is no issue of cold or not cold. In fact, this shows a misunderstanding of what "cold" means in traditional Chinese medicine.Western medicine describes diseases with terms like inflammation, tumor, infection, metastasis, while traditional Chinese medicine describes diseases with terms like fire, heat, cold, coolness, deficiency, and excess.

In traditional Chinese medicine, "宫" refers to the female reproductive system inside the body, including the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, etc. It is also called "胞宫", "血室", "胞脏", and does not specifically mean the anatomical uterus. The "寒" in traditional Chinese medicine does not simply refer to low temperature. Are cold hands and feet the same as "宫寒"? This cannot be entirely said.

"Cold" comes from the eight principles of syndrome differentiation: yin, yang, exterior, interior, cold, heat, deficiency, and excess. These are the eight categories of syndromes, which form the basic method of syndrome differentiation in traditional Chinese medicine.Uterine cold belongs to the category of yin syndrome, with the location being an internal syndrome. In terms of the nature of the disease, it is a cold syndrome. Regarding the strength of pathogenic and healthy factors, uterine cold can be further divided into excess cold and deficiency cold.If the patient's own vital energy is sufficient, and a cold pathogenic factor invades, it is called "excess cold"; if the patient's own essence and energy are insufficient, leading to relatively excessive coldness inside the body, it is called "deficiency cold."

The theory of the six external causes and five internal evils of traditional Chinese medicine can also be applied here. Six external causes: wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness, fire; Five internal evils: internal wind, internal cold, internal dampness, internal dryness, internal fire.Being exposed to wind and rain, eating cold drinks, and wearing low-waist pants belong to external cold; decreased bodily function, reduced local blood flow, and insufficient material exchange belong to internal cold. The "Synopsis of the Golden Chamber" in the chapter on miscellaneous diseases of women states: "Women's diseases arise from deficiency, accumulated cold, and qi stagnation, causing the disruption of the menstrual flow, lasting for years, with cold blood accumulation and cold injury to the uterine gate, leading to hardened meridians." The "Fu Qingzhu's Gynecology: Seed Gate" records: "Women with coldness in the lower body, which cannot be warmed except by fire, have no warm qi in the yin during intercourse; people think it is a weak constitution, but who knows it is extreme cold of the fetus!" When the weather is cold and the ground is frozen, river water will freeze into ice. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that mammary gland hyperplasia, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, etc., are caused by phlegm-dampness congealing and qi stagnation with blood stasis, the culprit is cold evil. On barren frozen soil, even the best seeds cannot sprout, and even if they do, they are inherently insufficient. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that infertility or miscarriage is also caused by cold evil.

Let me give you a simple example to make it clear:

"A girl who is thin, small, and delicate has deficiency cold (internal cold); if she eats cold drinks, it is excess cold (external cold)."

"Gonghan" (uterine cold) is a simple and clear term that is easy to accept. Ordinary people can remember it immediately: a cold uterus manifests as cold hands and feet. In fact, when seeing a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioner, they may not necessarily mention the term "Gonghan." TCM believes that uterine cold is related to kidney deficiency, spleen deficiency, blood deficiency, liver qi stagnation, phlegm-dampness, and blood stasis. When diagnosing and treating, they will carefully differentiate among these various syndromes. Therefore, besides self-care at home, you can also consult a TCM doctor, have your pulse taken and be questioned, and use acupuncture combined with herbal medicine for treatment, so that the medication can be more accurately targeted to the condition~

Traditional Chinese medicine health care to regulate uterine cold:

1. Traditional Chinese Medicine Foot Soak: Boil ginger, cinnamon twig, and safflower in water to soak the feet, which has the effect of warming yang, dispelling cold, and promoting circulation through the meridians.

2. Care during menstruation: You can drink our "Asthenic Cold-Related Abdominal Pain Tea Therapy", which contains dried ginger, red dates, codonopsis, and atractylodes. It helps warm the stomach, dispel cold, regulate qi, and warm the menstruation. Drinking it one week before the menstrual period can relieve menstrual pain discomfort.

3. Daily Nourishment: Goji berries, walnuts, longan meat, jujubes, mulberries, angelica, chicken blood vine, ginger, and chicken or lamb soup. The broth helps warm the kidneys, boost yang energy, and replenish essence and blood. Eat more foods that tonify qi and warm the body, such as walnuts, jujubes, and peanuts, to compensate for congenital deficiencies with acquired high energy. There is no need to worry about excessive internal heat; cold uterus constitution is due to insufficient fire energy and is unlikely to cause symptoms of excessive heat or body heat.

4. Daily Exercise: "Movement generates yang energy," and those with a cold constitution especially need to improve their condition through exercise. Brisk walking is the simplest method. Walking, especially on cobblestone paths, can stimulate the meridians and acupoints on the soles of the feet, helping to unblock the meridians, regulate qi and blood, improve blood circulation, and warm the entire body.

5. Regularly undergo acupuncture treatment: Acupuncture can not only regulate qi and blood but also relax muscles and activate collaterals, which can help improve cold hands and feet, menstrual pain, and other issues~
