I often hear elders or doctors say:

Eat less spicy food!

Spicy and stimulating foods such as chili, curry, scallions, garlic, and greasy foods can easily cause liver qi stagnation and further affect the circulation of qi and blood.

During the period of taking traditional Chinese medicine, it is not advisable to eat too much spicy food, otherwise it will affect the efficacy of the medicine~

Because when we are sick, our body's condition is in a biased state. It is often either yin deficiency or yang deficiency. Yin deficiency already means internal heat; if you eat some chili peppers, the accumulated heat increases and will consume body fluids. It's like a big pot with not much water inside, but you keep adding firewood; the more the fire burns, the less water there is in the pot, and the body feels even worse.

For people with yang deficiency, eating some chili peppers to invigorate yang energy is actually quite good. However, when doctors prescribe medicine, they already take your yang deficiency into account and may add herbs that warm and tonify yang energy. If we continue to eat spicy food, the yang energy may become excessive, which could instead become a kind of depletion for the body.
