However, there are several situations that do not constitute amenorrhea:
❌ Within one year of menarche
❌ Pregnancy period: ten months
❌ Breastfeeding has not stopped
❌ Menstruation stops after menopause
The above situations are all physiological menopause.
Pathological "amenorrhea" is:
✅ Primary amenorrhea is when menarche has not occurred by the age of 16
✅ After the menstrual cycle is established, if menstruation stops for more than 6 months or for three cycles, it is called secondary amenorrhea.
So what exactly causes amenorrhea? It is closely related to our daily living habits.
1. Mental Stress - Living/working in a mentally stressful environment for a long time leads to liver qi stagnation and liver dysfunction, causing qi stagnation which results in blood stasis, blood blockage in the vessels, and blood unable to flow downward, leading to amenorrhea.
2. Excessive Exercise - After a long period without exercise, suddenly exercising excessively can deplete qi and blood, leading to insufficient Chong and Ren meridians, emptiness of the blood sea, and amenorrhea due to lack of blood flow.
3. Dieting to lose weight, or binge eating - Dieting to lose weight damages the spleen and stomach, leading to insufficient production and resulting in blood deficiency; binge eating similarly damages the spleen and stomach, causing spleen deficiency and impaired transportation, with phlegm and dampness internally generated, obstructing the Chong and Ren meridians, or forming lumps, which prevents blood from descending and causes amenorrhea.
4. Excessive sexual activity or too many childbirths - The generation of menstruation is mainly governed by the kidneys; excessive sexual activity or too many childbirths both damage kidney qi. Kidney qi deficiency and lack of essence and blood lead to insufficient nourishment of the Chong and Ren vessels, resulting in amenorrhea.
